INTERVIEW WITH MATT SASSARI
Hello Matt thanks for taking the time for this interview with Viva la Electronica.
What does 2014 hold for you and your musical pursuits? Are there any big plans or is it business as usual?
Hello guys, you’re welcome, i read often VLE Magazine and you does the right job.
Well, 2014 is a fruitly year to be honest, i had the pleasure to reach several times into the top sales, play in amazing gigs. I also had the pleasure to confirm awesome collab with Roy RosenfelD or Ant Brooks and original on SCI+TEC for example.
At this moment, i’m working to release my next stuff on one of my favourite label all time. Can’t say more right now but crossed finers 🙂
Since when are you involved in electronic music and when was the point of breakthrough which let you become professional?
I started something like 5 years, when i discovered techno clubs in South of France. Only as a clubber but i decided to create directly my own sound and not start as a DJ. It’s very important for me to create my music and not only play music.
The breakthrough was when the announcement of SCI+TEC became official. It’s one of my best accomplishment. But, to be honest, each step was very important for me, my first releases on Potobolo, Deeperfect and recently Bitten, Tronic or Kinetika. Each step was a true matter.
Do you have a residency Club you play regular?
Not really a residency, but my friend Matt Mor has his residency in Austria. Matt Mor handle Panterre Music with me and i play sometimes with him. For example, the next party is a showcase of Panterre with him, Ron Costa & I.
You release on famous labels like SCI+TEC how is your relationship to the label owner´s? Is your releationship rather based on a business level or do you also have personal contact to the other artists?
Ali is a really cool guy! He’s a true man and his vision of music is very interesting. Regarding my relationship, i try to put the business work to a next level, I mean, it’s important for me to build my own family and to be close with labels. If you have a quick eye on my discog, you can check that i release only on few labels but several times : Deeperfect 10 releases, Potobolo +/- the same. 3 for Kinetika, Bitten or Tronic… Fidelity is the key of success.
What’s your favorite producing tool and do you also use hardware for your productions?
What a hard question ! Sometime, i’ll not use several tools to produce, sometimes, i’ll add a lot of tools, but, well, i’ll tell you something, go to beatport to hear my track « Industrial » in collab with my mate Ant Brooks. In this track, you can hear a massive keyboard. That’s my favourite tool:)
When i need to add a killer synth, i use it in my tracks. I just finish a third track recently with it. And the funny fact is that the name of the synth in my software is « Killer Synth » !; – )
About hardware, no, i don’t use hardware right now, but maybe in the future, i’m not racist again hardware !
Do current, contemporary sounds and styles influence you in the studio? Or would you describe it as a timeless working environment?
I try to be as timeless as possible. I mean, even if i wrote a music, it’s about a short period of my life, but these emotions are timeless and infinite, so i work in this way and serve my vision of the world around me with my music.
How do you spend your time between your gigs when you Travel?
Shopping ? Ahaha:)
I’m very addicted to sneakers, i had a nice collection of Nike. Some of them are on my Instagram. Except that, i try to rest or visit the city, i have the pleasure to travel all around the Europe and i go in Brasil soon, I need to enjoy every moment, every little pleasure that life give to me.
Do you have a particular gig in the summer season you are looking forward to?
Well, i’m just back from one gig in Barcelona at Terrassa and 2 in Ibiza. Sankeys was very sick ! I’ll put the record of the night on my Soundcloud in few weeks. It was very intense and magic. Especially because it was my first time in Ibiza, but everything was so cool.
What’s your favorite tune from the last months you constantly play in your DJ sets?
Traumer – Hoodlum ! No doubt on it. I play this track since the Day 1 and i’m absolutely love this dance-floor killer !
