Hello Andrew thanks for talking to us. Now it’s December , how do you reflect back on 2014? What lessons do you take into the new year and did you had (have) a very special moment you still remember?
What up and y’all welcome 🙂 2014 was pretty intense and I def learned lots of lessons this year.
Special moments are usually personal, like spending time with my friends mostly. Although playing at Sunwaves in Romania during a huge storm was pretty amazing and the crowd was great!
We’ve been tracking your career since you established in Europe, but tell us a little bit of your background back in the Russia.
Originally I’m from Chelyabinsk aka russian Detroit, known for the past few years also as Meteorite City) ). I graduated State University there with sociologist major, but never worked a job related to that. Started my music career there as well and seven years ago moved to St. Petersburg aka No Sun City aka Ash City .
What does 2015 hold for you and your musical pursuits? Are there any big plans or is it business as usual?
I’m happy to announce the first EP of my new “vinyl only” label Tripmastaz (by numbers).
It will be out sometime january 2015. At some point I noticed, that I had lots of my own, unreleased tracks in the vault, and finally took time to hand pick the ones that stood out for me personally. I’ll be posting snippets on my soundcloud page soon.
I’m also planning to spend more time on Ibiza next year.
Since when are you involved in electronic music and when was the point of breakthrough which let you become professional?
I started messing with music software and DJ equipment when I was 14-15 y/o, but took it professionally when I hit 19-20, and never looked back since. I can’t come up with the breakthrough point though. Nothing comes overnight. Just years of step by step experience.
Do you have a residency Club you play regular?
During the summer it was Special Case events Rooftop in St.P and Gipsy Terrace in Moscow. But not at the moment. Y’all promoters know where to find me, holla
What’s your favorite producing tool and do you also use hardware for your productions?
Nothing beats a good idea and skills, so nothing crazy to mention. But let’s keep it on a hush 😉
You release on famous labels like Minus or on Dj Sneak´s I Am a House Gangster how is your relationship to the lable owners? Is your relationship rather based on a business level or do you also have personal contact to the other artists?
Minus are good peoples and we remain business, Sneak is Fam.
How would you describe your sound?
I don’t feel it needs to be described really. I know that I have my own character and it naturally transcends into my music.
It just has to have that head nodding groove and timeless feeling I guess.
Do current, contemporary sounds and styles influence you in the studio? Or would you describe it as a timeless working environment?
I got influenced by current stuff, but we know that most of what we call “contemporary”, is old ideas remixed. Which makes them timeless in a way.
How do you spend your time between your gigs when you Travel?
Chill, sleep, walk , eat. Nothing crazy.
Do you have a particular gig in the winter season you are looking forward to?
Yes Sunday party at Pacha Barcelona – shout out to my FACT peoples! and NYE in Essen of course!
What’s your favorite tune from the last months you constantly play in your DJ sets?
Barac’s remix of B-Voice & Anrilov.
Where do you think music is going in terms of artists’ not making money off tracks because of the digital age? What is the next big thing for music in your opinion?
Hero of your childhood was: ehmmm… random/unknown ninja guy?
My first record i bought: if it’s any record, I don’t remember, but a house record is DJ Sneak – Platforms EP on 83 West
What did you want to be when you grew up: Bus driver / rap guy
What’s your vice: Fucking potato chips
