We talked this week with ths label hosts of Zoo:Technique about there work as producer, label heads and Dj. Get more infos of there background and read how music become a passions in there lifes.
Hello guys thanks for talking to us. Now it’s already April bu we want to ask how do you reflect back on 2013? What lessons do you take into the new year and did you had a very special moment you still remember?
2013 was a year for us full of changes, after some good tracks released on good labels that reached the Deep House and Indie Dance/Nudisco Top 100 of Beatport, we decided to take a break in production to focus our attention on our background and to realize what was the music style that belong more to us. This happened in the first half of the year, after the summer and to have understood that our genre is Techno, the same the genre we started many years, we met OniWax and the new project starts to take shape. We started to grow more our own label, investing and focusing to release on the label only on this new style. At the same time we started to produce only Techno or Tech House.
What does 2014 hold for you and your musical pursuits? Are there any big plans or is it business as usual?
2014 means for us a new way to conceive music. After many years where music was only a great passion and hobby, in 2013 became a full day job. There are a lot of cool and great news coming in the next months, from our new releases in big and cool labels, until the new artists in our labels with some of the hottest names of the moment. We are working also on the new Zoo:Technique Label Nights and on our gigs around Europe. We entered this month in the german Agency “MY FAVOURITE FREAKS” for the exclusive worldwide booking, with others great artists and friends like M.in, Danny Serrano, Macromism, Mihalis Safras, Ramon Tapia, Darlyn Vlys, Ramiro Lopez and so on.
Since when are you involved in electronic music and when was the point of breakthrough which let you become professional?
Last year was the year where we understood that music would have occupied full time our lives. There was not a particular moment where we have understood it, but a series of positive events that changed our lifestyles doing us to do what we love.
Do you have a residency Club you play regular?
In the past we had residencies in some cool clubs and events, the last one till the summer 2013. We alternated the activity of Residents to the activity of Guests. When we took the decision to change the musical imprint and our way to conceive music, we abandoned the residency and we started to play only as Guests.
What’s your favorite producing tool and do you also use hardware for your productions?
We produce since the early 2000, we starting using softwares like Cubase after, with the passing years we changed software passing to Ableton Live. Now we use in our Studio Ableton Live 9 with his Plg-Ins and third parts digital Plug-Ins like Waves Platinum, Native Instruments KOMPLETE 9, FabFilters Plug-Ins,etc. In addiction to this we use also some external hardwares like Nord Lead Rack 2x, MicroKorg, Moog Little Phatty, Ableton Push, Novation Remote SL MKII and others, all recorded via a great Apogee Ensemble. The mixing and Mastering of the tracks instead we make in Logic Pro X. All using an IMac 27”.
Do current, contemporary sounds and styles influence you in the studio? Or would you describe it as a timeless working environment?
Obviously when we make music in our Studio we always make careful to what the music industry is doing at this moment, but we are always looking for preserve our musical imprint, not to make the mistake as in the past to fall into the music trend of the moment.
How do you spend your time between your gigs when you Travel?
We love to spend our time eating (Nicolò loves to taste every typical food of every Country 🙂 and obviously drink and relax ourselves.
Do you have a particular gig in the winter/spring season you are looking forward to?
The Winter season is now over, but we are always looking forward to every gig. Every gig is important like the gig before and after, because we want always that the people don’t ever remain disappointed by our DJ sets, so there aren’t an event more important than another.
What’s your favorite tune from the last months you constantly play in your DJ sets?
It’s a million dollar questions because there’re a lot of good stuff coming out everyday, anyway if we have to choose the best one, we say: Kasbah Zoo, OniWax – New Era (Original Mix)
