INTERVIEW WITH RE-UP
Viva la Electronica Magazine go on with the Upon You – The Hot Five Interview serie this week with a exclusive interview with Re-Up from Italy.
Hey Leo and Omar thank you for taking your time to give Viva la Electronica an exclusive interview.
You both lifed in Berlin and you’re touring alot in Germany . What do you think is the diffrence between the Berlin and the rest of Germany’s Clubscene?
We are back in Venice again after a long period spent in Barcelona and Berlin. We would say that the difference between Berlin and the rest of the Germany’s scene is the club offer. You can party all the week listening lot of good music staying in the same city. It’s like having a 12 months festival.
What is your favorite Club you have played?
Panorama Bar (Berlin), Sunday Breakfast (Zurich), Tag Club (Venice)
What do you think about Upon You ? Is your relationship to Upon You rather based on a buisness level or do you also have personal contact to the other artists?
We first met UY Crew in Barcelona during Sonar Week. At the beginning there was only a good releationship cause Hawks, Marco and all the crew are so sweet!! One year later we started a successful collaboration.
What is the next project you have in the pipeline and will be working on? Did you run also a own label or stuff like that?
We just finished a remix for Tiefschwarz feat. Argenis Brito out this month on Souvenir Music. Another remix for Pascal Feos // Level Non Zero, and one for Andy Slaker on Unpleased Records. After this we will focus only on our forthcoming double Vinyl on Dissonant. A special project, a kind of mini album. Then more remixes are on the way 🙂 Parallely we run our own imprint Kina Music which will release soon tracks from
Yaya, Hector, Halo Varga, Arapu, Nu Zau, Egal 3, Loquace, Doubtingthomas, Kreon, Ivel Tax, Sonodab, Francisco Allendes, Archie Hamilton, Ilario Liburni, Ferro and many more we will soon announce. We are really glad to see that our label is being respected every day more.
Recently we released the third 12″ which is supported by Raresh, Dorian Paic, Marc Antona, Cesar Merveille, Terje Bakke, tINI. Proudly we can say that it’s out of stock in only 5 days.
On April 2012 we started Wizz Music Tools, agency of facilities for music Business. We are a physical and digital distribution, we provide mastering in partnership with Complete-USA, we have a video department for videoclips, promo teaser etc. and recently we developed a new platform for promotion that we are already testing and will be launched on March 2013.
Which artist would you like to remix in the future?
Any preferences at the moment. Every artist who makes music we can feel is welcome!!
Or maybe one… we would like to remix our ex Prime-Minister Silvio Berlusconi. We heard that his showcase are really wicked and full of nice girls!!!!
When did you first get in touch with electronic music and when did you decide to become a dj and producer?
It was around 1995.. We were playing in a fashion store every Saturday afternoon. In this shop there was also a vinyl store and it was nice to have clubbers, djs and promoter meeting up there. We felt so attracted by this attorney.. good music, colors, nice girls… everything was funny. It was such a great opportunity actually we ended up playing at one of these promoter’s party. After years, let’s say around 2001, we built up our own studio and started making the first experiment as producers.
Are you getting inspired by other music, for example classic or soul music for the productions of? Do you like to sample or rip off some older material?
We don’t like to rip other’s music.. It’s about about respecting other artists creation. At least we can take inspiration trying to create similar atmosphere of what we like! We think the remix is the way to sample something already existing and make it yours.
Few weeks ago we released a track we made while testing new hardwares. We took a loop from an old Vinyl of an alternative acoustic band but you can’t even recognize the original track.. We decided to release it for free as gift for our followers and it worked.
What’s your favourite producing tool and do you also use hardware for your productions?
At the moment we are addicted to Monomachine and Evolver but always opened to try new gears. We are also using the Korg Legacy VST a lot, hopefully one day we’ll get the real ones.
Do you have a particular gig in the winter season you are looking forward to?
We try to make our gig always special.. Now we are excited for our first appareance at Rave On Snow
You are touring around a lot. What is your recipe to stay well and healthy ?
Eating good, sleeping if it’s possible and having sex!! This make us stronger
How do you spend your time between your gigs?
Running our label and the agency requires big time and dedication. Producing music as well. This is how we spend the days between our gigs.
Which is your favorite tune in the last month you always play at your gigs?
Leo: Phrasis Veteris – Valhaia
Omar: Seq – Smooth Garra
