In the annals of electronic music, there has simply never been anyone else on earth quite like his-music, severe, and otherworldly in every way, M.in has blazed a trail through underground music culture over the last 10 years that remains unrivaled in terms of boldfaced originality.
2016 is the Year of the Ape. The ape is a kind of wise and flexible creature, looks like the human most. In regards to this particular Album, the set is essential for electronic music lovers, the perfect set for this summer and beyond. Artists that are working in this Album along M.in: Fabio, Macor, Marquez Ill, Pete Kaltenburg, Bruno Gentile, Juliane Wolf and Riven.
Producer, label boss and DJ Markus Ferdinand a. k. a. M.in is not only a music but also a quick change artist. He’s always on the move, whether if he’s on the stage as a passionate performer as in the studio, where he constantly improves his skills. His development reaches another peak with his new album “The Year Of The Ape”, which will be released on the 1st July on M.in’s label My Favourite Freaks Music. The name of the record is no coincidence: not only that the artist was born in the year of the ape in the Chinese horoscope, but also in the character of the artists some character traits of the intelligent animal – while he is a commenced musician in his everyday life, in his live performances he turns to a real bundle of energy. His restlessness also becomes clear in his work flow as a producer: the Frankfurt-based M.in focuses more and more on analogue sounds and integrates them into many pieces of his new album which gives them a real unique character.
If you take a look at the track list, it becomes clear: M.in is no lonely lonesome wolf, but he loves working together with other musicians. This shows up in many new collabs in the formation process of ‘The Year Of The Ape’. Together with the Italian producer Fabio Macor, M.in created the track ‘Fallin’’, which is the first one of the album. An easy-going groove and a warm bass line are carrying the track that is constantly whirled up by crazy sequences. With her unique voice, singer Meg.e.Gray adds her own handwriting to the track.
Analogue sounds and 909 beats unite on ‘Make Some Noise’, a track that was created together with Marquez III and absolutely lives up to its name.
Bruno Gentile is also a welcome guest in M.in’s studio – in a short period of time, a musical connection developed between the two artists which also led to the three tracks ‘Rotate’, ‘Something’ and ‘Prophecy’. On ‘Rotate’, a rough house track with a fat bass line, heavy grooves and catchy vocals, M.in’s new passion for his analog synths.
‘Something’ is driven by a 303 bass line and 909 hats as a special surprise a piano riff comes up in the middle of the track – hands up feeling guaranteed.
The tech house number ‘Prophecy’ will surely be played throughout many clubs – synth thunderstorm and noise bring the darkness back into the light of the dance floor.
Together with colleague and buddy Pete Kaltenburg two tracks on the new M.in album were created: ‘Better You’ succeeds through its suspenseful build-up and the captivating break which is also accompanied by analogue Moog sounds. Especially during the claps and the short vocal samples framed by 808 percussion you clearly feel the Chicago house influences.
Groovy drums and catchy melody are the core of the high-energy track ‘Reach Out’.
As a result of the collaboration with the Berliner-by-choice and acid lover Juliane Wolf, the track ‘Forever’ combines a 303 line with dub sounds, framed by a slightly shifted groove. A catchy Reggae vocal forms the centre of the track that is accompanied by deep strings.
The collab with Riven gave birth to the house smasher with the suitable name ‘Connect’ which takes the listener on a journey with exciting vocal shots and groovy synth stabs.
On the last track ‘Real Underground’ that is also a result of the collaboration with Riven, M.in’s Love to analogue synths shows up very clearly again. With the Moog Mother 32 he created a mad synth line that again and again comes across the deep bass of the Sub 37. M.in himself explains the message of the track with is own vocals: ‘Just clap!’
In 2016, another ‘Year Of The Ape’ has come. The Chinese horoscope says about the ape: ‘The ape is a cheeky animal that enters the stage with a remarkable speed and extraordinary motivation’ – sounds just like M.in.
